Year gone by 2016

Yo guys! Wassup?

This year has finally come to an end. Time for the year end post.

If you regularly follow my blog then you must have been disappointed (or happy) to note that there were far fewer posts this year than compared to last year or the year before that. If you didn’t notice don’t worry cause even I was blissfully unaware of this myself. I had a vague idea that the number of posts i wrote had declined. I didn’t bother myself with the details. Until, I read someone else’s year end blog. WordPress generates these awesome fireworks animated reports, which shows different stats of the blog for that year. This year however they haven’t generated any report *atleast not yet*. Initially I thought they did and I didn’t receive a notification about it, cause my blog had a bad year. After a google search I realised that they really haven’t released these reports yet. So wordpress bloggers had to fallback on the default simple stat page of the blog. This someone else’s blog that I saw had a positive correlation between years, number of visitors and views. At this moment, abandoning all reason and logic, I had a sudden desire to go to the stats page of my blog and see a positively correlated graph. All that greeted me was this:

stats

I literary LOLed watching this. What was I even expecting?!

If you notice this years graph has had almost a threefold decrease. So what was I upto? Thats what this post is gonna be about.

YEAR GONE BY -2016

First and foremost I entered 2016 while i was in the final semester of my engineering degree. This implied I had a series of deadlines to abide by, exams to attend, work on my final year project while trying to enjoy and collect as many memories as I possibly could from the final four or five months I had left to spend with my friends and classmates at university. We didnt have many subjects in the last semester but I thoroughly enjoyed the elective lectures sitting in the last bench of the class with my friends. *To all the last benchers of economics class* 😉 😉 . All in all engineering came to an end and the mission I set out for, four years ago was finally completed.

So what comes after a bachelor’s degree? Most of my friends went on to pursue a master’s degree, while I chose to work. Frankly speaking, I do miss the student life. But work life ain’t bad. The only thing that irks me – sometimes – is the travelling. If you wanna hear more of my rant on travelling to work please click here.

By the time I came back home I used to be tired. The only thing I could do was watch videos (youtube, re-watch seriers, netflix and chill). Some new good shows I watched this year were House of cards, Mr.Robot and the crown. I watched a few episodes of an old Hindi TV series called “fauji” -which translates to soldier in English. This is proclaimed to be one of Shah Rukh Khan’s best performances. It was a good show. Don’t quite remember why I stopped watching it.

All throughout the year I didn’t read much. Maybe three-four books. To while away time on my way to work, I went book shopping last month (like I didn’t already have a huge TBR list). Started reading one book and from nowhere I am now simultaneously reading four books. And my friend sends me this (almost accurate):15590299_10154198353343379_4143644123021386392_n

I wasn’t being creative on the literary end, so I thought I might as well do some art to keep the creativity alive.  These are some of my masterpieces this year 😛

Said tata-goodbye to social media for quite some months. Felt good. Thought I am gonna come out of this internet “social” media crap, sober. Who am I kidding? We are all addicted to it.

A lot of people have told me that my laughing-style is weird and that i can’t control my laugh. This has landed me in sticky situations too.  Nonetheless, I love laughing. To everyone who made me laugh/smile this year. Thank you.

Hope you all enjoy creating happy memories in 2017! 🙂

Oh and yea.. Don’t abandon reason and logic, be confused, most important of all – keep smiling, stay happy, stay safe and peace! 🙂 🙂

Trailers for book releases?

Recently there is a new fad in literary town. Authors are making trailers for their books. As a marketing strategy ofcourse. But why?

Video trailers for books are not new, but now its spreading like wild fire.

Books and trailers/movies are two different mediums of storytelling. One takes advantage of your imagination while the other builds an impression through sound scores and visual treats. Clearly both have different requirements/skill sets and a different audience. Then why merge both? If the books were to be made into a movie i understand. Authors want the story to reach a larger audience by shortening the time span of conveying the story. even though some compromises are made in terms of plots, they do happen to reach a larger audience.

But a trailer for a book? I cant get my head around this.

Thecreativepenn states that

Video can directly impact your marketing efforts because it is a “shareable” medium that can create immediate buzz about your book

When an author describes “She wore a bright red dress”, you have the liberty to imagine a bright red dress.. its up to your mind to set the color (just like the brightness setting on your phone). You can imagine it to be clingy or comfortable or backless.. a low cut, a knee length, a boot cut or whatever the hell you think will suit the character. But when it comes to a movie its a knee-length, first shade of bright red dress. Done. And you are left screaming in your head “BOOT LENGTH DRESS SUITS HER YOU YOU YOU.. MOVIE MAKERS”. You might not believe this but it messes up my brain.

If anyone is interested in reading a book then they will go through the plot summary. With all the book trailers i have seen the written plot summary and the trailer are remarkably the same. They have to be.. they tell the same story.

Never judge a book by its movie.

When we have an believe n quotes like these. What would make us change our perception? I am not even talking about the movie here.. its a trailer. How can publishers possibly imagine that we would jump right in for the book just by seeing the trailer. Maybe for an upcoming movie a short trailer might work, but a book? nah.

If you pick up a book just by seeing the trailer you are going to be disappointed either way. The book may not be as good as the trailer or the trailer may not be as good as the book. In most cases people tend to end up having the latter opinion.

According to thecreativepenn one of the reasons a trailer is made is to gain the attention of potential new fans. If the reason is potential new fans then yes, but isn’t there a possibility that if a person doesn’t have the time to read a summary then boy, how are they going to read the book?

Are publishers mixing up their target audience?

Any authors/publishers/booklovers out there.. please feel free to express your opinion on this below in the comments section.

Save the internet!!

Internet:Hello..

Me: Hi.. Yo whatsup?

Internet: Nothing much.. What about u?

Me: Nothing much.. just summer, summer rains, farmer sucides, and protests..You know India is not India without protests.

Internet:Oh yeah.. the protests. BTW I heard You guys in India don’t like the freedom and connection i provide anymore.

Me: Oh.. So you have heard about it.. No hard feelings buddy.. It not us netizens favouring this you know.. the Telcos (Telecom companies).

Internet: I get that but why don’t you do anything about it? I have been your saviour in times of distress, helping you to find materials for your assignments, Order stuff online, Find you the cheapest flight/movie tickets online, Chat with your buddies, post a selfie online, Share status updates, flirt with friends or strangers.. Then WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME?!

Me: I agree i agree, I totally agree.. But Its not us.. Its the Telcos. They seem to have brain washed the TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority Of India).

Its as if government are not capable enough to understand trivial FACTS. compartmentalizing the internet into First class, second class.. You know the cast system / divide and rule policy India is just sooo efficient in carrying out such acts of high intelligence. So basically if i was wanted to access a site like WordPress i will have to pay extra to just log onto it. And if..just hypothetically if.. tumblr has tipped the service provider. The users of that telecom service provider will be able to access Tumblr at a speed greater than the speed of light-no i am just kidding. The sped at which you access other selfhosting sites will be comparatively far lesser than the speed with which you can access tumblr.  Marvellous idea right to snub the budding business and franchises which dont have money to tip the service providers in their favour. AAARRHH!! All this at a time when the Prime Minister 0f India is spreading the slogan “Make in India”.

Internet: But according to my data analysis on content of the web India is a democratic country right! You have the right to save me from getting webbed.

Me: Yeah buddy. We are trying our best to you back in a neutral way. But The TRAI makes it a tad bit difficult.. Trai on March 27 put up a consultation paper on its website asking users to give their views on net neutrality in India. The last day for netizens to send their views to Trai on the subject is April 24. The consultation paper consists of 20 questions and guidelines spread over 118 pages.

The AIB (All India Backchod) and the netizens behind the savetheinternet.in website have made our review job easier.

Hey internet.. can you do me a favor? Just this one last time before you get divided.

Internet: Yeah ofcourse.

Me: Send this message across to people.

Internet: Your wish is my command.

Me: Watch this video and send out your responses to TRAI.
