In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Turn, Turn, Turn.”

Seasons change so quickly! Which one do you most look forward to? Which is your least favorite?

I don’t find mentions of my favorite season in the responses to today’s prompt. 😦

There are mentions about autumn, summer and spring. Autumn cause we are not yet in the freezing zone, its just the right amount of chill to chill. Summer cause its warm, a trip to the beach would be fun, a little bit of tan would do no harm. Spring cause life springs back into the dull nature.. and the world looks just more colorful.

Where is the monsoon? The cycle can’t be complete without monsoon. I don’t have anything against the other seasons but my favorite season is monsoon!

As mentioned in my blog before my name varsh-a in my mother tongue means rain 🙂 So there is no way i can’t love it.

From the cool breeze before the rain to the festoon of water droplets on the branches and leaves of the trees, I love everything about it. Its power to rejuvenate the dull, thirsty earth into a throbbing mass of life is wonderful.

I absolutely enjoy getting drenched in rain. Not the type of person who will carry an umbrella fearing the clouds to pour. I don’t give a damn about the dress, my belongings, not even my phone! Cause of this drenching love for rain i have damaged a plenty of watches of mine. Right now i don’t posses one and i have no intention of buying one cause its almost monsoon here. 😛 Oh and the taste of pakodas, jalebis and ice cream adds a lot of fun to it.

I have done almost all crazy things anyone can imagine doing in rain like.. jumping on muddy puddles barefoot, walking around barefoot on roads, – i don’t know how to explain this but you know rain gets collected along the side ends of the road and vehicles just zoom past you on the road and there is this sheet splash of water (almost like a mini wave) falling over you and you go like “What the hell?!” —- Psst readers.. Is there a word to explain this phenomena? 😛

The only thing i haven’t tried is playing football in grounds. Its like a thing on my bucket list. Why haven’t i done that yet.. well cause i don’t find people who fancy playing football in vision blurring rain. Plus grounds are not easy to find in my uber metro city. 😦

The only thing that puts me off during monsoon is the stench due to horrible conditions of drainage system. The open garbage dump areas, semi closed manholes, holes meaninglessly dug on roads and footpaths.

Any pluviophiles out there? 😉

Anyone having done even crazier stuff? 😛

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Blogger With a Cause.

Among all the non extinct organisms in the universe they offsprings of a human are the only ones who need constant care and love from the moment they are born to the age of maybe eighteen or twenty when they are ensured that they can take care of themselves and lead a harmless life (well in most cases). This said, human kids are still the most neglected in a society. In terms of nutrition, physical & psychological development, emotional connect, health – number of diseases that a child may suffer with is appalling. Not to mention selective acceptance of a child based on gender. In the animal kingdom you will hardly find parents dealing with the above issues. There its just the criteria of best selection ( or was that survival of the fittest? ). A kangaroo’s struggle for life starts right when its an embryo. The embryo need to crawl out of the uterus ( yes its red in colorand very very tiny). dIt has to travel all the way to its mother’s pouch, where the mammary glands are present. This now acts as the human version of umbilical cord for the embryo to develop further. Now you see the journey from uterus to the pouch is not easy. This journey should be limited to only a few minutes and if.. If.. The embryo is unable to get to the pouch within this time frame or if it falls down it is left at that. Not a second glance given by the mother. The birds.. Once the birds hatch. They need to have just twoqualities to live a life. One learn to fly and two learn to find your own meal. I mean after that they don’t even live in the same nests. What I am trying to say they do not require that sort of constant attention and yet they live a meaningful life. But we.. From the first diaper change to the little boo boo that you get, parental care is so important. And most of them are the alien to this basic love and care. It breaks myheart to see kids on TVs and newspaper in the conflicting nations bombarded with weapons of mass destruction, natural disasters, the so called burden of feeding another mouth and no one to look after them. Their shrivled faces and swollen eyes from crying their heart out. Abandoned for life, struggling for existence and identity. At times I think why we even have natural birth anymore. I mean if everyone who wanted a kid could adopt a kid who are left abandoned (of course legally and with a good heart), the world be a better place.   So that’s my cause. Kids, children.. The most innocent and lovely people on earth.

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Dear Leader.”If your government (local or national) accomplishes one thing this year, what would you like that to be?

I am reading a book titled “What young India wants” by Chetan Bhagat. Its a collection of short essays and columns that he had written for newspapers. A few speeches included as well.

He puts forth what are the exact needs of India.. the young India. A lot has changed over a period of two years but surprisingly a lot remains unchanged. From corruption to providing employment to the youth to voting to the old views that need to change, etc, etc.

The one that i think is most important is educating the young India. Yes we have Right to education (RTE).. yes we have the mid day meals in place to lure the kids. But even in these provisions the number of enrollments seen in schools is going down. The reason being there are a lot of loopholes in the set system.

Some parents are against the RTE cause they do not want their kids interacting or mingling with the kids who come from the “lower strata” and hence some schools backed out too cause they were threatened by the parents that they would pull their wards off that school. (Duh! thats why the RTE was put in place, so that the less privileged had access to education).  A paradigm shift in the way the public thinks is required. And the worst part is.. its all a chain reaction.

The mid day meal. Hmm.. well the food is there but the problem is.. its infested with worms. Oh no its not spoilt, the government thought worms and rice, worms and dal are a great combo and taste great. Well yeah this is a huge problem. Parents send kids to school so that they atleast have a meal to fill their stomach than have an empty stomach. But when such incidents come up they rather pull them off school than carry them to local hospitals for the lack of money and the unpromising support of the concerned official. They would favor having a pair of helping hands at work than send kids to school with a possibility of falling sick. Some schools do get provided with quality food thats good to start with but then again these are sponsored by NGOs. Thats the clue.. cling onto it.

And then there is the problem of finding teacher. Who wouldn’t want to have a government job? There are n number of candidates but the people who get through are usually have contacts and have poor subject knowledge or the good hardworking ones. The former are more in number.

The government on a national level is doing a great job on the save daughter campaign, is actively connected to the youth via twitter and mann ki baat, make in India initiative, being a support to other nations at the time of crisis, but working on the educational issues is what I think is lacking from their agenda.

And here we are.. all giving our political views and ranting away to glory.

The 2-minute drama

“Maggi maggi maggi”. If you are familiar with the brand i bet you sang it mentally in your head. I did 😉

I have absolutely no idea how many times i have had Maggi or the number of times i have heard / seen this ad. A lot of us had fun preparing these 2 minute maggi and relishing the aroma and taste. And at times sing along to the ad jingle. If you have never heard of it.. here have a listen..

Just an intro Maggi is a brand for is an international brand of instant soups, stocks, bouillon cubes, ketchups, sauces, seasonings and instant noodles. Now owned by Nestle. Well the company is now having a row over the instant noodles section of the brand. Instant like in 2 minute. I think the whole marketing strategy is build on the 2-minutes preparation time idea. Tests over several samples of Maggi noodles have been found to contain high content of lead and monosodium glutamate or MSG, a taste enhancer.. the reports suggest the levels are way beyond the permissible amount. A few states in India have already banned its sale. There is a country wide scrutiny going on over the last few days.

A lot of our childhood and adulthood has been dependent on the availability of maggi and its ease of preparation.. with absolutely no skills required. 😉 Some of my friends still depend on its existence to have a meal atleast one time a day. Well i am not such a lover of the instant noodles. The only thing i liked when maggi was made was to smash the solidified noodles with hand into tiny pieces, so that people couldn’t eat it with a fork. 😛

Thats not why i am writing this i am writing this cause with the boohahah of the maggi row the endorsers are being dragged into a  lawsuit. Celebrities endorse a product for two main reasons maybe they just love the product and would like to promote it. Or because they get good money for it. For some its the later. Some of them go as far as going and checking out the quality of product before they actually endorse it. Amitabh Bachan admitted to have done this in an interview. And it seems illogical to drag the endorsers into a lawsuit over the brands negligence of the product quality. And if the issue comes out after five years of endorsers have checked the quality, how are they responsible? Considering the number of products celebs endorse today its difficult to check of the quality of each product.

Will the celebs be acquitted from it Or like the ad says will the whole episode vanish after 2-minute drama?

There are some products that threaten or do change the outlook of the crowd and yes it is harms the mental appetite. Like the skin lightening creams which according to me promote racism. Why not have a lawsuit over these endorsers? They slow poison our minds constantly. Oh you say we can’t do that cause there are no numbers? no statistically proved theory that they are racist? Oh you call it marketing strategy. Bulls**t. I bet if test are carried out on theses samples the reports would give us a very “fair” idea of what the product stands for.

Coming back t o the Maggi topic. I dont get it.. is it just the solid noodles or the masala or both that has high levels of lead in it? If its the masala then its great news. We can adjust you know. Its the “great quality” Indians have. “Adjust a bit yaar..” , “swalpa adjust madkoli..”, “chalao type hai yaar kuch bana lete hai side main. Do minute ki tho baat hai”.

I think we should call it the great Indian quality. Any more traits that could count as the great indian quality?
